KoRo Handels GmbH is a Berlin-based eCommerce brand revolutionizing the way consumers access high-quality food and nutritional products. The Challenges: Scaling product data management across a fast-growing eCommerce business

As KoRo’s product line and distribution channels scaled, their internal systems struggled to keep up. Product data was scattered across four separate tools: spreadsheets, an ERP, a DMS, and their eCommerce platform. Each new product launch required multiple handovers between teams, with no single source of truth to guide the process. Information was enriched in one place, transferred manually into another, and often updated inconsistently. It wasn’t just inefficient—it was risky.

Without version control or change history, data governance became a guessing game. Teams couldn’t track what had changed, by whom, or why. Mistakes in product specs or labeling meant potential compliance issues and delays. And with an increasingly complex product catalog—including origin details, processing methods, and sustainability data—maintaining accuracy became even more critical.

The limitations of this fragmented system became clear: KoRo needed a single, structured platform to unite their teams, scale their operations, and deliver consistent, enriched product data across every channel.

KoRo’s implementation story is as bold as the brand itself: with no external partner and a small internal tech team, they went live with Akeneo in just seven months. Through ECM sessions and collaboration with Akeneo’s Professional Services, KoRo was able to build a minimum viable product incredibly fast and continuously iterated to expand functionality. Their cross-functional teams established best practices from the start, ensuring strong internal ownership, smooth communication, and alignment across departments.

The results were immediate and measurable. Manual handovers were reduced, internal processes and communication were streamlined, and data became more reliable and traceable. KoRo shifted from using four tools to just one with Akeneo, dramatically simplifying operations. Today, 25 contributors from across the company actively manage product data in Akeneo, enabling KoRo to act faster, make smarter decisions, and launch new product ranges with confidence.

KorRo’s ability to expand their omnichannel reach allowed them to diversify their sales channels and revenue streams – where online once accounted for 90% of all sales, they’re now able to attribute 30% of their sales to retail. Akeneo enabled functionalities like QR codes enriching the product experience and reinforcing KoRo’s commitment to transparency.

And while the technical transformation is impressive, the cultural shift might be even more important. KoRo’s teams now see product data not just as a necessity—but as a strategic asset, which is why they’ve been honored with the 2025 Leadership Award.
