The Challenge: Navigating Complex Product Data Management Amidst Global Expansion

Tiffany & Co.’s rapid global expansion presented challenges in managing product information. The intricate flow of product data between the company’s proprietary PLM system and its eCommerce platform led to errors, missing information, and duplications. This complexity resulted in inaccurate product listings, adversely affecting operations and customer experience.​

The absence of standardized product information and a well-defined product hierarchy further heightened these issues. Variations in product structures, such as inconsistent categorization and unstructured identifiers from inbound systems, led to confusion in product catalogs.

Fragmented data governance and the involvement of multiple technology partners without clear ownership led to misalignment and coordination issues. The absence of a robust data governance framework resulted in inconsistent management of product information, causing inefficiencies across regions and delaying key project milestones.

 

The Solution: Enhance Global Product Data Management Leveraging Akeneo PIM

In order to centralize and enrich product information to facilitate efficient management across multiple markets, Tiffany & Co. embarked on a comprehensive digital transformation by implementing Akeneo as a robust Product Experience Management (PXM) platform. 

Key initiatives included refining the product structure to align with both product data and eCommerce presentation, ensuring a seamless customer experience, and a comprehensive data cleansing process that allowed the team to successfully organize and structure thousands of incomplete or inconsistent product records. This meticulous approach enabled the successful launch and support of seven new markets within six months.

The optimization of Akeneo’s rule engine improved performance by eliminating errors and duplications. Utilizing reference entities facilitated seamless mapping to inbound and outbound systems, aligning Akeneo’s product structure with both the PLM system and Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC).

Establishing a robust governance framework was pivotal in aligning IT services with Tiffany & Co.’s business objectives, ensuring sustainable growth and effective global expansion. Comprehensive adoption and training plans were developed to ensure smooth onboarding and effective utilization of Akeneo PIM across all markets.​

Integrating Akeneo with a complex ecosystem, including Algolia for enhanced search functionality, SFCC for eCommerce, and other systems like PLM (TPM), Lengow, and Adobe DAM, ensured accurate, enriched, and localized product data flow across markets and channels. 

These strategic implementations have not only resolved existing challenges but have also positioned Tiffany & Co. for continued success in its global expansion efforts, reinforcing its commitment to excellence in product experience and customer satisfaction.

A pivotal moment in Tiffany & Co.’s global strategy was the successful launch of its official eCommerce market in South Korea. They were able to precisely tailor product information to the Korean market, respecting local cultural and linguistic nuances powered by Akeneo’s PIM system.
