About the Company

Founded in 1907 and headquartered in Brussels, Schréder is the global authority on intelligent outdoor lighting. Present in 70 countries across five continents, the company equips cities, roads, sports venues, industrial sites, airports, and campuses with the lighting infrastructure that powers modern smart city ecosystems. Schréder is not a simple product company. Each luminaire is an engineered system, configurable across optics, wattage, color temperature, mounting type, control systems, and regional compliance requirements. The result is millions of valid product configuration combinations. Every team in the business feels it: engineering, sales, marketing, and every market they serve.

Challenge: Structuring Highly Complex Product Data at Scale

Every customer configuration added another layer of complexity. With 778 SKU’s, 304 product attributes and 3,427 attribute options, Schréder’s legacy systems couldn’t keep product information current across markets. Sales teams were left navigating outdated information instead of confidently helping customers find the right solution

The company relied on an aging internal system alongside unsupported SharePoint-based documentation, making it difficult to maintain accurate and consistent product data. At the same time, Schréder needed to manage its highly configurable products across 14 languages while supporting multiple teams involved in product information management, including R&D, product design, local marketing, and sales.

As product complexity increased, Schréder needed a way to centralize information, establish a single trusted source of product data, and ensure consistency across all systems and countries.

Solution: Co-Creating Akeneo Digital Showroom

Schréder joined the beta program for Akeneo Digital Showroom and became one of the first companies to actively co-create the solution alongside Akeneo’s product teams.

Designed to transform PIM data into a visual experience inspired by modern eCommerce interfaces, Digital Showroom gives sales teams instant access to centralized, reliable, and visually structured product information from any device.

For Schréder, the solution addressed several strategic priorities:

  • Presenting highly configurable technical products in a simplified way
  • Managing large volumes of technical product data
  • Centralizing technical documentation
  • Supporting commercial teams with faster product discovery
  • Delivering a consistent experience across 70 countries

The implementation also became part of a broader product data ecosystem connected to several business-critical systems, including:

  • A dedicated MDM for configurable products
  • A CPQ solution
  • A PLM platform

A True Co-Creation Partnership

Schréder played an active role in shaping the evolution of Akeneo Digital Showroom, going far beyond the role of a traditional beta customer.

Their involvement included:

  • Writing detailed functional specifications
  • Participating in weekly debugging and feedback sessions
  • Testing highly complex product scenarios
  • Providing structured field feedback from business teams
  • Contributing directly to product roadmap discussions

As one of the few companies managing product catalogs with this level of configurability, Schréder helped Akeneo strengthen the platform’s capabilities for technical product management and advanced commercial use cases.

This collaboration also contributed to:

  • Enhanced analytics capabilities within Digital Showroom
  • Integration opportunities with Schréder’s internal AI connected to the PIM
  • Collaboration around MCP Server development
  • Ongoing improvements to the platform’s product management capabilities

AI-Powered Product Content Management

Schréder is already leveraging Akeneo’s AI capabilities to streamline product content operations and improve efficiency across markets.

The company uses AI to:

  • Generate meta titles and descriptions
  • Automatically produce product datasheets
  • Accelerate multilingual translations
  • Improve content consistency and quality

These capabilities help teams save time while ensuring product information remains reliable and aligned across channels and regions.

The Results: Building a Global Foundation for Product Experience

In just one year, Schréder transformed the way it manages and distributes product information.

Key outcomes include:

  • Deployment of Digital Showroom across 60 countries
  • Full centralization of product information
  • Improved collaboration between R&D, marketing, and sales
  • Faster product launches and updates
  • Creation of a shared global product reference system
  • Direct contribution to the evolution of Akeneo Digital Showroom

A tool so critical, downtime is immediately noticed. Digital Showroom has become embedded in Schréder’s daily commercial operations. With 944 active users relying on it for immediate responses, customer presentations, and product updates, any interruption is felt immediately across the organization.

Reduced agency dependency. Content changes that previously required external agency involvement are now handled directly within Akeneo, eliminating turnaround delays and reducing third-party costs for routine product data updates.

For Schréder, Digital Showroom has become more than a product distribution tool. It now serves as a strategic platform that connects complex product data to commercial usage, helping teams deliver better customer experiences while improving internal efficiency and accelerating innovation.

The next phase: external resellers and B2B e-commerce. Schréder is now extending Digital Showroom beyond internal teams by building dedicated showrooms for external resellers and commercial partners, and is actively exploring B2B e-commerce as the platform’s next strategic frontier.
