At a Glance

Challenges

  • Fragmented product data and syndication ecosystem: Petra relied on multiple siloed tools, leading to duplicate workflows, inconsistent product data, and difficulty maintaining a single source of truth across channels
  • Inefficient, manual marketplace management: Teams had to manage product listings and resolve errors directly within individual retailer portals (Amazon, Walmart, etc.), creating operational bottlenecks and increasing the risk of inaccuracies
  • Legacy, home-grown systems limiting scalability: Internally built tools for 1P retail listings were difficult to maintain, error-prone, and unable to support Petra’s growing scale and complexity
  • Pressure to reduce costs and simplify operations: In a margin-sensitive wholesale environment, maintaining multiple vendors with overlapping functionality became increasingly unsustainable
  • Need to accelerate time-to-market across a large catalog: With ~15,000 active SKUs, slow, manual onboarding processes delayed product launches, and limited revenue opportunities.

Benefits

  • Centralized product information and syndication: Akeneo PIM + Activation provides a single source of truth, enabling Petra to manage, enrich, and distribute product data across 16+ channels from one platform
  • Elimination of redundant tools and workflows: Replacing outdated tools reduces vendor contracts, lowers costs, and streamlines operations
  • Significantly faster time-to-market: Automated product onboarding and channel integration reduce what once took months to a much faster, scalable process, helping brands go live quicker and capture revenue sooner
  • Improved data accuracy and operational efficiency: Centralized error resolution means one fix in Akeneo updates all channels, reducing manual effort, minimizing listing errors, and ensuring consistency at scale
  • Enhanced product content and performance through AI: AI-powered enrichment improves product discoverability, increases conversion rates, and reduces returns by delivering richer, more accurate product experiences.

About the Company

Petra Industries is a leading wholesale distributor that connects more than 500 brands with top retailers, including Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy, Home Depot, Target, and more. Operating from Edmond, Oklahoma, Petra serves as a critical link between brands and the digital shelf, offering a fully integrated suite of services spanning logistics, channel management, and digital marketing. With a strong focus on unifying and optimizing product data, Petra enables brands to efficiently scale across multiple retail channels, accelerate time-to-market, and deliver high-quality product experiences that drive visibility, sales, and customer satisfaction.

Before Akeneo, we were using a combination of internal systems, but there wasn’t any single place where all our product data lived. We didn’t have that single source for all product information.

The Challenge: Fragmented Systems Slowing Scale and Consistency

Petra Industries was facing growing complexity in managing product information across an expanding network of brands and retail channels. Its syndication ecosystem was highly fragmented, with separate platforms handling different aspects of marketplace distribution and content enrichment. This created duplicate workflows, inconsistent product data, and made it difficult to maintain a single, reliable source of truth.

At the same time, internally built tools used for managing 1P retail listings were increasingly difficult to maintain, prone to errors, and unable to scale with the business.

These inefficiencies were compounded by the operational burden placed on internal teams. Sales, marketing, and merchandising teams often had to log in to individual retailer portals (such as Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy) to resolve data errors or manually update listings. This not only slowed processes down but also increased the risk of inaccuracies, delays, and missed revenue opportunities. With approximately 15,000 active SKUs and dozens of channels to manage, these manual, disjointed workflows became unsustainable.

In a margin-sensitive wholesale environment under economic pressure, maintaining multiple vendors with overlapping capabilities was no longer viable. Petra needed a more streamlined, scalable approach to unify product data, accelerate time-to-market, and support continued growth, without increasing operational complexity or cost.

We’re light years ahead of where we’d be without Akeneo.

The Solution: A Unified Platform for Scalable, Streamlined Product Experiences

After identifying their challenges and what needs to be restored, Petra Industries set an initial plan for Akeneo Product Cloud:

  1. Syndicate and adapt product content into Akeneo Activation, replacing the third-party aggregator model to reduce cost and complexity.
  2. Better utilize Akeneo PIM as the single source of truth for Petra’s full product catalog of approximately 15,000 SKUs across all channels.
  3. Leverage AI-powered tools to enrich product content and improve discoverability, and drive higher conversion across retail channels.

Despite a shortened, strict timeline, Petra Industries successfully implemented Akeneo Product Cloud, replacing a fragmented ecosystem with a single, centralized platform.

The Result: Faster Time-to-Market, Greater Efficiency, and Scalable Growth

With Akeneo at the foundation, Petra Industries has significantly improved operational efficiency and speed across its business. By centralizing product data and syndication, teams no longer need to manage updates or resolve errors within individual retailer portals, saving time and reducing manual effort while ensuring consistent, accurate listings across more than a dozen channels.

The transition to Akeneo Activation has also enabled Petra to consolidate vendors, eliminating multiple contracts and the duplicate workflows that once slowed productivity.

These improvements have translated into faster time-to-market for Petra’s brand partners, with automated product onboarding replacing a previously manual process.

Petra now manages approximately 15,000 active SKUs with greater control and scalability, allowing new products to go live more quickly and begin generating revenue sooner.

At the same time, richer, more optimized product content has improved discoverability and conversion across retail channels, while reducing errors and returns and delivering a better experience for brands, retailers, and end customers alike.

Congratulations to Petra Industries for winning the 2026 Market Maker Award!
