LordCo Auto Parts

How Lordco Auto Parts used Akeneo PIM to turn fragmented automotive product and fitment data into a single, governed source of truth in just 12 weeks.

“Before Akeneo, our product information was fragmented across legacy systems and supplier files, with no standardized governance or enrichment workflows.”

At a Glance

Challenges

  • Product information was scattered across disparate legacy systems, causing friction and the slowing of centralizing, enriching, and distributing product data.
  • Managing product details from roughly 300 suppliers became difficult as product data came in many different formats and standards
  • Data quality was hard to measure and control, which led to inconsistent information across brands, creating a real risk for customer experience, time to market, and frontline teams.

Benefits

  • Akeneo PIM became a single source of truth, making product data more consistent and controllable.
  • Ability to build a scalable, repeatable foundation with structured attributes, classification standards, and validation workflows.
  • Replaced manual processes with more automated classification and validation, making it faster to add and improve product data while reducing day-to-day friction for internal teams.

About the Company

Founded in 1974 and headquartered in British Columbia, Lordco Auto Parts is a leading distributor of aftermarket automotive parts. They operate 90 retail stores and four warehouses across Canada and the United States, supplying a vast range of motor vehicle accessories, tools, and equipment to both wholesale and retail customers. They market their products through physical retail locations and an integrated BigCommerce e-commerce platform that supports Buy Online, Pick Up In Store (BOPIS) functionality.

“By implementing Akeneo PIM as our central system of record, we built a true single source of product truth for both product and fitment data.”

The Challenge

Ahead of their adoption of Akeneo PIM, Lordco struggled to manage their data quality, leading to inconsistencies across brands and SKUs. These inconsistencies were often due to their previous software restricting them to 50-character descriptions and a singular part number. Even with the restriction of their product information, the data itself was scattered and inconsistent. Product data stayed siloed in the minds of the team or in disparate legacy systems, which made centralizing, enriching, and distributing data highly time-consuming.

This restriction, product data fragmentation, and having to manage fitment and product details from roughly 300 different suppliers was incredibly difficult due to immense variations in data formats and standards, and they faced intense pressure to deploy a robust solution quickly to support an upcoming e-commerce launch.

Lordco soon realized they needed a Akeneo PIM to achieve their goals of centralizing and governing product data. They also needed a dedicated fitment solution to manage complex automotive data standards like ACES/PIES, plus a smooth integration with BigCommerce so BOPIS products would display correctly online.

“The result was a foundational shift from fragmented product information to a controlled, scalable product data infrastructure designed for long-term agility.”

The Solution

Once Lordco adopted Akeneo PIM, their first task was to build a true single source of product truth as their central system to record all product and fitment data. Under an accelerated 12-week timeline to support a critical e-commerce launch, Lordco implemented Akeneo PIM together with an integration middleware layer and a specialized Automotive Fitment App to normalize complex ACES and PIES data. This setup centralized product data intake from their ERP and more than 300 suppliers, translated inconsistent terminology into structured product families, within a single, unified data model.

Inside Akeneo, Lordco then introduced structured attributes, clear classification standards, and repeatable data validation workflows to turn disconnected product information into a governed, scalable foundation. As a result, business users could manage data quality directly with less reliance on technical teams, and Lordco had the data backbone needed to launch BigCommerce with full BOPIS functionality.

The outcome was more than a successful deployment. It marked a shift from fragmented product data to a controlled, enterprise-scale product information foundation built for long-term agility.

The Result

With Akeneo PIM up and running, the measurable impacts were clear to see. Where Lordco previously struggled to manage individual products and records, they are now successfully loading over 862,000 product records into Akeneo, integrating more than 1,400 categories, 280 brands, and processing a staggering 55 million fitment records to ensure automotive part compatibility.

With this integration, Lordco created a true single source of product information that kept their e-commerce launch consistent across channels. By integrating 55 million fitment records, they enabled highly accurate product discovery and compatibility checks for end customers, while the seamless data flow into BigCommerce ensured omnichannel consistency for BOPIS shoppers, boosting buyer confidence and helping reduce returns.

From an internal perspective, the transition to Akeneo PIM replaced hours of manual processes that created friction and silos with a fully automated classification tool. This made it faster to add new data from brands and suppliers, reduced technical dependencies, and empowered users to efficiently define and apply their data quality rules.
