Akeneo is a product information management system. Users can upload existing catalog files or start with industry-specific sample datasets. The system uses AI to automatically identify product families, identify product attributes, create a data model based on imported data, and import products into the catalog.
The dashboard displays workflow tasks and tracks product completeness by channel and locale. Users can filter products by channels, locales, categories, families, and product typology to locate incomplete products. Filters and display settings can be saved as views for quick access and shared with other users or kept private.
The product edit form allows users to enrich product data to achieve completeness and improve data quality. Completeness can be tracked by channel and locale to identify missing required attributes. Product attributes include details like Name, SKU, and Images, organized into attribute groups. Product families group products with similar attributes – for example, a T-Shirt family may have a Color attribute while a Jacket family includes Lining Material.
Under the Settings menu, users can structure families, attribute groups, and attributes. An Ask AI button provides step-by-step answers to questions about using Akeneo, with the ability to ask follow-up questions.
AI generates product descriptions using other product attributes, customer reviews, assets such as images and PDFs, and additional context. Users can select ready-made prompts or write custom prompts, with AI-powered suggestions to improve them. Prompts can be tested on single products with a preview panel before manual launch. Results can be validated or rewritten. AI translates content and sets up automated quality controls. AI extracts information from asset types like pictures or PDF datasheets – for example, detecting color from product images and automatically filling attributes.
The rules engine automates AI actions and other defined rules. Rules can automatically launch translation for attributes from one language to multiple target languages.
Akeneo DAM stores any asset type. Assets uploaded to Akeneo are available in the Asset Manager and linked directly to products. The grid view allows filtering and searching assets. AI auto tag attributes enhance asset quality and improve search capabilities. Users can search for all assets associated with specific attributes like brands. Assets can be stored as files or external links and enriched with metadata using native attribute types.
Asset transformation options include resizing, reformatting, and optimizing quality. Advanced attribute types enhance assets to create comprehensive product information. The asset page displays linked products for easy access. Users can generate public links supported by an integrated CDN for live web traffic.
AI features automatically adjust images to meet external image requirements. Akeneo Smart Edit changes image backgrounds, auto-crops, and adjusts aspect ratios. Regular Expression automatically extracts values from asset names and assigns assets to products.
After logging in, users see assigned workflows and tasks categorized as Late, Urgent, On Track, or without due dates. The task list shows which products need attention. The Product Edit Form displays workflow, step, and necessary attributes. Users can fill in and update product attributes needed for each step. Contributors can review previous work, approve or reject attribute values, and add comments for rejected values.
PX Insights uses customer feedback and shopping behavior data to identify opportunities to improve product content and discoverability. The AI Discovery Insights score shows how well product data performs online, measuring visibility and understandability across AI platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. Product ranking for specific search intent on AI-powered search platforms ranges from 0 (lowest visibility) to 5 (highest visibility). Users can identify missing product information and perform suggested actions to improve AI visibility. Each suggested action is detailed.
Rating and review insights analyze customer reviews to gain insights into product quality. AI analysis of customer feedback is available. Users can apply insights by launching workflows or sequential edits. On the product Edit Form, detailed reviews are available with AI analysis. Insights can be turned into actions by launching rules, workflows, attributes editing, or any product-related action.
The Shopify Connector is available from the Akeneo AppStore. Setup involves three steps: establishing the connection by creating or logging into a Shopify account, installing the Akeneo Connector on Shopify, launching AI automated mapping between Akeneo and Shopify attributes, reviewing and modifying attribute mapping configuration before syncing, and synchronizing products with Shopify. Products become available in Shopify ready for ecommerce sales.
